ABOUT WEETS EVENT 2023

WEETS is targeted at optimizing digital opportunities for women/girls and making the ICT sector the next focal point for women development in Nigeria.

It is on record that Nigeria is today the biggest economy in Africa with one of the largest populations of young people in the world.  The country is well-positioned to develop a strong digital economy, which would have a transformational impact on the citizens and the economy.

Nigeria, however, is capturing only a fraction of its huge digital economic potential. To move to the next level in developing a dynamic, transformative digital economy, there is an urgent need to empower the girl child, increase women socio-economic opportunities through access to digital technology and boost digital skill acquisition.

This is the central objective of Nigerian Women Entrepreneurs and Executives in Tech Summit (WEETS): To empower the girl child, inspire women to take on entrepreneurship opportunities, leadership position and play active roles in the evolving digital economy and facilitate wide-scale digital re-skilling.

THEME OF WEETS 2023

In this year’s edition, we have carefully chosen a theme that we believe will interest you and inspire your participation.

THE THEME IS: BREAKING THE GLASS CEILING FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS TO THRIVE IN THE DIGITAL ECONOMY.

The thematic focus aims to identify, discuss, dissect and proffer real-life solutions to barriers or encumbrances to the efforts of gird-child and women towards attaining their potentials in the current digital world. We believe that your organization is one of those corporate entities that have purposively continued to prioritise the growth and development of not only female staff to reach the apogee of their career but has also embarked on number connate initiatives that have empowered the girl-child in Nigeria.

MODUS OPERANDI

The WEETS 2023 has been enriched this year to focus on the following three activities:

1. Advanced Digital Skills Boot Camp For Women/Girls:

This is a 2-day Advanced Digital Skills Boot Camp women and girls. Here, we intend to get subject-matter industry experts to train and expose female gender to emerging trends in the world of ICT. Topics to be discussed include, but not limited to the following

• The Changing Landscape of Digital Economy in Nigeria
• Artificial Intelligence,
• Blockchain,
• Metaverse,
• Quantum Computing,
• Green Technology,
• Cyber Protection`,
• ICT-driven Entrepreneurship and so on.

We are ambitious about this, as we intend to train 500 women/girls during the 2-day programme. The Boot Camp will run from September 11^th – 12^th, 2023 at Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) premises of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Cappa, Oshodi, Lagos. The venue has been confirmed to be suitable, open, serene, secure and environmentally-friendly as to encourage qualitative learning to take place for the intended participants. Refreshment shall be provided for the participants as they share and curate their innovative ideas from the instructors/educators.

2. Full-Day Tech Summit and WEETS Merit Award

This Full-Day Tech Summit is the major aspect of the WEETS 2023, where Panel Discussions shall be held to discuss issues around the overarching theme of the event: Breaking the Glass Ceiling for Women and Girls to thrive in the Digital Economy. This is scheduled to take place on;

Date: Thursday, September 14th, 2023

Venue: Radisson Blu Ikeja GRA, Lagos

Time: 9:00am Prompt.

In addition to this, there will be a Special WEETS Merit Awards to recognize organizations/women that support female digital inclusion and digital development in Nigeria. This will take place on the same day (September 14, 2023) immediately after the Tech Summit.
